Nine seniors from Porterville and Monache High School baseball teams, along with members of the Panthers coaching staff, will gather today for the annual Senior High School All-Star Challenge at Bakersfield College’s Gerry Collis Field. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
The all-star game pits Bakersfield seniors against Central Valley players from Porterville, Tulare, Visalia and Hanford.
The players from Porterville High (22-6, 12-3 EYL) are shortstop Daniel Perez, infielder and pitcher Cameron Fish, pitcher and first baseman John Herrera, outfielder and pitcher Ricky Carranza, catcher Santiago Sanchez and pitcher Will Hipps.
From Monache (18-13, 7-8 EYL) are pitcher Ricky Alba, infielder Matthew Cloyd and first baseman Aaron Hernandez.
Hill led Porterville to an outright East Yosemite League championship — the team's first EYL title since 2015. For the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs, the Panthers received the fourth-seed and an opening-round to start. Porterville beat fifth-seed Arroyo Grande (15-13) 5-3 but lost 9-4 to eventual Valley champions, top-seed San Joaquin Memorial (27-5) in the semifinals.
