Eighth-seed Strathmore High School girls water polo advanced to the CIF Central Section Division III quarterfinals with a 9-3 opening-round win over ninth-seed Bakersfield Christian, Thursday, Nov. 8, 2019, at home.

Eighth-seeded Strathmore High School girls water polo defeated ninth-seeded Bakersfield Christian 9-3 in a CIF Central Section Division III opening round game Thursday at home.

The Spartans scored six goals in the first quarter to secure the win.

Faith Wynn led Strathmore with a game-high three goals and a steal. Paulina Cemo had two goals, five steals and three assists. AnnMarie Patterson had two goals, two assists and one steal. Sidney Hartsell had one goal, five steals and one assist. Kylee Blackwell had one goal and one assist.

In the cage, Faith Karjala had two saves in the first quarter and Yazmyn Sanchez had seven goals in the final three quarters.

Strathmore plays a quarterfinal game Saturday at top-seed Hanford West.

Ninth-seeded Strathmore High School boys water polo lost 10-8 to eighth-seeded Exeter in an opening round CIF Central Division III game Wednesday on the road.

Gabe Bower led the Spartans with two goals, three assists and two steals. Both Owen Patterson and Lucas Wilkinson had two goals, two assists and one steal apiece. Cole Davin had two goals and a team-high three steals. Jacob Watson has one assist and Ben Watson had one steal.

Goalkeeper Max Dieterle had six saves and two steals.
