Second-seed Monache High School girls water polo defeated No. 15 Sierra of Tollhouse 12-2 in an opening round game of the CIF Central Section Division II Championship tournament Wednesday at home.

On Saturday, the Marauders (20-4) host seventh seed Kingsburg (14-4) at 11 a.m. for a quarterfinal game. Kingsburg defeated 10th seed San Luis Obispo 10-6 in their opening round game Wednesday.

The 11th-seed Porterville High School girls water polo team's season came to an end with a 14-5 loss to sixth-seed Clovis North in an opening round game of the CIF Central Section Division I Championship tournament Wednesday on the road.

Johanna Scheer led the Panthers (14-13) with three goals, one assist and one steal. Karlie Patch had one goal and one steal while Macy Nunez had one goal. Claire Lee had a team-high three steals and one assist. Emily Herrera had two steals and one assist. Goalie Ahna Davis had eight blocks.

No. 4 PHS host No. 5 Golden West

Fourth-seed Porterville School boys water polo will host fifth-seeded Golden West Saturday in a quarterfinal game of the CIF Central Section Division II Championship tournament.

Golden West defeated No. 12 Nipomo 14-9 to advance while the Panthers had an opening-round bye.
