Strathmore High School boys basketball defeated rival Lindsay 71-26 in an East Sequoia League game at home Thursday evening. 

The Spartans were led by Josue Topete with 13 points while William Reece and Miguel Samano had nine points apiece. Kyle Oliveira also chipped in seven points.

“We had a great third quarter outscoring them 28-5,” SHS head coach Justin St. Clair said. “I’m happy for our seniors to be able to win their last home [game] against Lindsay [tonight]. We played with great energy tonight and we did a great job keeping our composure. Third quarter was pretty intense. Guys off the bench played well tonight.”

Porterville 74

Delano 39

Porterville boys basketball defeated Delano 74-39 in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League game at home.

The Panthers led 13-11 after the first quarter but were up 32-23 by halftime. Porterville outscored Delano 25-12 in the third and 17-4 in the fourth for the win.

Twelve of 13 Panthers scored with sophomore Dane Odsather leading the team with 13 points. Jacob Daguman added 12 points and CJ Fish had 10.

Porterville (16-5, 4-0 EYL) is in  sole possession of first-place in the EYL and travel to rival Monache (11-10, 3-1 EYL) tonight for a 6 p.m. game.

Granite Hills boys soccer lost 3-2 to Farmersville in an East Sequoia League game on the road Thursday.

Scoring for the Grizzlies was Ivan Ayon and Salud Magaña.

Porterville 2

Delano 0

Porterville boys soccer beat Delano 2-0 at home in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League game. 

Both teams were scoreless after the first half but the Panthers got an early goal in the second half an own goal by a Tigers’ defender. Porterville’s second goal was a penalty kick scored by Nick Ward midway through the second half.

“The game was very sloppy and physical,” PHS head coach Eddie Gutierrez said. “It was a good win for us and the boys put in a good effort. Eduardo Angeles had a big penalty kick save in the first half along with a few other key saves in the game. He was very good in goal [last night].”


Tulare Western 3

Monache 1

Monache girls soccer lost 3-1 to Tulare Western at home in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League game.

The Mustangs scored all three goals in the first half while the Marauders’ Zoe Rios scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half.

Monache’s junior varsity team lost 4-2 to Tulare Western with the Marauders’ Nina Serrato and Irene Andrade scored a goal apiece.


Porterville 74

Cerro Coso 68

Porterville College men’s basketball defeated Cerro Coso 74-6 at home in Wednesday evening’s Central Valley Conference game.

Da’Morea Green and Elijah Cardenas both led the Pirates with 15 points apiece while Darion “DJ” Wilson finished with 13 and Germaine Caldwell Jr. had 11. Treager Wallace also led the team with eight rebounds. 

Porterville (9-7, 4-1 CVC) is tied for second in the CVC and travel to first-place Fresno (14-3, 5-0) Saturday for a 3 p.m. game. The Rams are ranked fourth in the state.

Mission Oak 12

Monache wrestling defeated Mission Oak 63-12 in a East Yosemite League dual meet on the road.

The Marauders host rival Porterville, Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 5:30 p.m. in their final EYL dual meet of the regular season.
