Division III Porterville High School girls basketball took down Div. I Edison 48-37 Saturday in the Central Valley Showdown hosted by Sierra Pacific High School.
Jewelia Maniss was selected the Player of the Game after finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Nseije Ortiz led the Panthers with 15 points and four assists while Jazlynne Medrano had seven rebounds and five points. Madison Johnson had six rebounds, five assists and five points.
Porterville’s next game is Tuesday at Tulare Western (7-11, 1-0 EYL). The defending EYL champion Panthers (17-2, 1-0 EYL) opened league with a 61-30 win over Mission Oak (2-17, 0-1 EYL).

Porterville High School boys basketball defeated Mission Oak in an East Yosemite League game Friday on the road.
Dane Odsather finished with a team-high 19 points, Joseph Catalina had 18 and Matthew Rivera had 14.
The Panthers are now 1-0 in EYL and 10-8 overall. They’ll host Tulare Western Tuesday at home.
Strathmore High School boys basketball lost 64-59 to Farmersville in an East Yosemite League game Friday on the road.
William Reece led the team with 15 points and had three 3-pointers. Owen Patterson finished with 10 points, Philip Valencia had eight and Kyle Oliveira had six.
Lindsay High School’s girls soccer defeated Farmerville 6-1 in an East Sequoia League game Friday on the road.
Jimena Magaña and Isabella Duran each scored two goals while Belen Ferreira and Maria Rangel scored one apiece.
Monache High School girls soccer defeated Delano 9-0 in an East Yosemite League game Friday on the road.
In the first half, Zoe Rios scored the first goal on her free kick and Jiselle Batres scored the second goal off Jessica Batres’ free kick.
In the second half, Gabriela Vasquez scored off a pass from Abigail Sotelo. Jiselle scored again off another assist from Jessica. Then Alexa Baez scored and Rios scored, respectively. Ruby Fiori scored off a pass from Vasquez then Sophia Mendoza scored off an assist from Rios. Alexandria Rivas scored the final goal.
Alyna Gonzalez and Avah Gonzalez played a good game at goalkeeper with each playing a half.
“We touched the ball real good tonight,” MHS head coach Tino Rodriguez said. “It was a great team effort.”

Emiliano Corona scored three goals for a hat trick. Jorge Quintero and Adan Ibarra each scored one goal.

Granite Hills High School boys soccer lost 2-1 to Woodlake in an East Sequoia League game Friday on the road. Erick Rincon scored the team’s lone goal in the first half.
GHHS head coach Pedro Gonzalez said the team played a good game but missed too many chances.
