Porterville High School girls tennis defeated Mission Oak 8-1 in Monday's East Yosemite League match at home.

The Panthers swept singles with No. 1 Chloe Weaver winning 6-2, 6-0; No. 2 Sierra Mitchel 7-5, 6-2; No.3 Jewelia Maniss 4-6, 6-2, 10-7; No. 4 Erica Palad 6-2, 6-0; No. 5 Zeila Rivera 6-0, 6-1 andNo. 6 Liz Martinez 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, No. 2 Zeila Rivera and Natalia Sanchez won 8-2 while No. 3 Dez Gomez and Jazz Medrano won 8-2. No. 1 Mitchel and Weaver lost 9-8.

Porterville is now 5-1 in EYL and travel to Tulare Western for an EYL match Wednesday.


Strathmore 11

Bakersfield 10

Strathmore High School girls water polo defeated Bakersfield Christian 11-10 in overtime of Monday's East Sequoia League game on the road.

The Spartans' Paulina Cemo scored the game-winner in overtime. Cemo finished with four goals, five assists and four steals. Faith Wynn led Strathmore with five goals, one assist and one steal. Both Cemo and Wynn had three goals apiece in the first quarter.

Mykah Garcia finished with one goal and two steals. Goalkeeper Yazmyn Sanchez had eight saves in the first half and AnnMarie Patterson had three in the second.


Sierra Pacific 1st, Lindsay 2nd

Sierra Pacific High school girls golf shot 251 and won the third nine-hole East Sequoia League mini tournament Monday at Kings Country Club. Lindsay was second with 295 and Strathmore third with 304.

Natalie Felix led the Cardinals with 49, the third lowest score of the match. Also scoring for the Cardinals was Cayli Carrillo (50), Klaryssa Perrez (62), Lizeth Garcia (67) and Meanie See (67).

The Spartans Kambria Rohrbach led her team with a 51, Anushka Larson a 52, Kylia May a 62, Noemi Villalobos a 69 and Fatmia Chavez a 70.

Granite Hills did not score as a team but Vanessa Prado shot a 69 and Reilly Crowder a 72.


JV Marauders win tourney

Monache High School's junior varsity volleyball team won the inaugural MOTown JV Throwdown hosted by Mission Oak Saturday.

The Marauders defeated Mt. Whitney 2-1 (24-26, 25-7, 17-15), Mission Oak 2-1 (25-22, 24-26, 15-12), Immanuel 2-1 (17-25, 25-15, 15-8), Tulare Western 2-0 (25-18, 25-21) and Lemoore 2-1 (21-25, 25-19, 15-5).

Leading the team in kills was outside hitter Kelani Regaspi with 38, middle blocker Karyme Martinez with 28 and outside hitter Zoe Czaja with 14.

Monache is coached by first-year head coach Macie Land-Stuart.
