The 10th-seeded Granite Hills High School girls soccer team lost 2-1 to seventh-seeded Orange Cove on the road in Tuesday’s CIF Central Section Division VI game.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the half but the Grizzlies were unable to score in the second half.
Granite Hills finished the overall season with a 5-14-1 record and went 2-9-1 in the East Sequoia League.
Tenth-seeded Monache girls basketball lost 48-31 to seventh-seeded Shafter in the opening round game of the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs Tuesday.
The Marauders finished their season with a 16-11 overall record and went 7-3 in the East Yosemite League to tie for second-place.
Tenth-seeded Strathmore girls basketball defeated seventh-seeded Kerman 51-43 to advance to the quarterfinals in Tuesday’s CIF Central Section Division IV opening round playoff game on the road.
The Spartans (23-7) next game is at second-seeded McFarland (25-4). In a game earlier this season, McFarland beat Strathmore 58-47.
Mira Monte 4
Monache baseball defeated Mira Monte 8-4 at home in Tuesday’s non-league game.
At the plate Daniel Andrade went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI while Alexza Sandoval was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Troy Nieto also had a sacrifice-fly for an RBI.
Starting pitcher Ricky Alba went four innings with one earned run while Andrade pitched the last two innings and allowed two hits and one earned run. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.
Both Monache’s freshman and junior varsity team’s won their games 16-0.
Porterville College women’s tennis lost 7-2 to Modesto in Tuesday’s non-conference match on the road.
The Pirates lone wins came in singles where No. 4 Neelam Aziz lost her first set 6-4 but won the next two 6-2 and 10-7. No. 5 Zoe Vasquez also won 6-3, 6-2.
PC head coach Kurt Nielsen said the team was missing their No. 4 and No. 6 but the girls who replaced them played well. He added that it was a “competitive” match against the defending Big 8 South champions.
