PHS still atop Div. IV

The week 9 rankings are out, and Monache High School's girls and boys cross country teams have both cracked Division I's top three for the first time this season.

The Marauder girls hold on to the second spot in Div. I and overall while Buchanan, currently second in the state and sixth in the nation, unsurprisingly sits atop the Div. I and overall rankings.

"Buchanan is really untouchable," said MHS head coach Seth Ishida. "That's not a defeatist attitude, it's just reality."

Clovis West sits in third, followed by McFarland in fourth.

"It's going to be an absolute dog fight for that second, third, and fourth place at Valley,” Ishida said. “We are ranked above Clovis West right now, but they just beat us at Roughrider so they probably have a more legitimate claim to that spot. McFarland is always tough. Our girls and theirs are evenly matched to within 5 or 10 seconds of each other. At Valley, first and second get on the podium, the top three teams go to State, and number four goes home. Every one of those girls will be going all out."

In Div. III, the Lindsay girls rank 11th, while Porterville holds steady at 13. Overall, they are 37th and 45th, respectively.

In Div. V competition, Granite Hills ranks sixth, Strathmore moves up two notches to 11th, and Summit Charter jumps five places to 21st. Overall, they are 66th, 89th, and 96th, respectively.

The Marauder boys have climbed one spot in Div. I and are now ranked third. They are ranked sixth overall.

"We didn't feel like we had a great showing at Roughrider, so it's a little surprising to see our ranking go up," Ishida said. "We expect to see our numbers slip a little in the next couple of weeks as we train through some of these dual meets. That's all right. It's fun to get these rankings from week to week, but you still have to execute on the big day."

In Div. III, the Lindsay boys are up one slot this week to No. 9, climbing three spots in the overall rankings to 43rd.

Porterville's boys continue their reign in Div. IV, claiming the top spot for the seventh time this season. They moved up one spot in the overall rankings to 15th.

In Div. V, Granite Hills improves to fifth, Summit Charter remains in eighth, and Strathmore comes in at 13th. Overall, they rank 75th, 84th, 91st, respectively.
