The Porterville Police Department had a busy weekend focusing on cleaning up the streets from impaired drivers. Through two separate DUI operations, PPD netted six arrests.
PPD conducted a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on January 17 on Plano Street near Park Drive between the hours of 8:30 p.m. to January 18 at 2:30 a.m.
Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.
During the checkpoint, 183 vehicles were screened, resulting in three arrests for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. No citations were issued at the checkpoint.
Officers from the police department made three arrests during a DUI Saturation Patrol that was conducted on January 18 from 9 p.m. to January 19 at 3:00 a.m. Two of the arrests were for driving a vehicle while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The other arrest was for driving a vehicle while under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs. The operation was staffed with two police officers, who were actively seeking out impaired drivers.
In addition, PPD officers made seven vehicle enforcement stops and issued two citations. Both of the citations were issued to motorists who were driving without a valid driver’s license.
PPD will be conducting additional DUI enforcement operations throughout the year. These details assist in the department’s ongoing commitment to take suspected impaired drivers off of the streets and highways, ultimately lowering the risk for deaths and injuries.
Last year, PPD investigated 50 DUI collisions which resulted in 26 reported injuries.
