Porterville Community Strings will present the annual “Pops Goes The Strings” Concert on Thursday evening June 20. This 7 p.m.program will be held in the music room CA-2 at Porterville College. There will be no admission charge, and the public is invited to attend.
This program will feature the musical talents of the Porterville Community Strings, an organization of local musicians who enjoy playing the violin, viola, cello and string bass. As an all-volunteer group, they have appeared at numerous community and civic functions, and have been a part of the Porterville musical scene for the past twelve years.
The audience will recognize many of the melodies to be featured in this concert, including the “Try To Remember” tune fromthe Fantastics as well as symphonic melodies and waltzes. Folk tunes, sea chanties and fiddle tunes are included, together with the beloved melodies of Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington.
Symphonic masterworks will include the Finale from Mozart's Symphony No. 15; themes from Haydn's String Quartet No. 3; and selections from Saint-Saens' “Carnival Of The Animal.”
