The Tule River Parkway Association (TRPA) would like to invite the public out to many events slated through April. Below is a detailed list of each TRPA hosted event, their times and locations.

Saturday January 11, 9 a.m. Until noon

Volunteers will be completing the restoration plantings started in December 2019. Willows, cottonwoods and seeding with wildflowers will be planted. The planting sites will be surrounded by willow fencing which will be constructed onsite from willow cuttings. Learn how to make a rustic willow decorative fence and help protect the new restoration plantings. Other volunteers will be doing light maintenance on gardens that have already been planted. Wear closed toed shoes and bring garden tools and gloves if available.

Meeting Place: Jaye Street Bridge Parking Lot South bank of the Tule River in Porterville.

Directions: Go to 463 South Jaye Street and continue south crossing the Jaye Street Bridge. The event staging area is in a large parking lot accessed from a small driveway at the south end of the Jaye Street Bridge. This City of Porterville parking lot is located north of the Villa Robles Apartments.

Tuesday January 14, TRPA Meeting 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Sequoia Transitional Care, 350 N. Villa St. Porterville. The meeting will be held in the conference room. Enter the front door and ask for the conference room. The front door is at the left back corner of the parking lot. Everyone is welcome. You don’t have to be a member to attend.  A brief slide show presentation of the current stages of the project is often presented.

Saturday January 18, 9 to 11 a.m.

Garden Walk and Parkway Stroll – Tule River Parkway, Porterville.

Docent lead walk on the Tule River Parkway. The walk will be on paved surface with optional sandy path trail exploration included if elected by participants. There are no stairs and one gentle grade with elevation gain of 50 feet. The walk will be at a leisurely pace for 3 miles or less with time to examine the recently planted gardens and the vegetation along the parkway.

Meeting place: Carl’s Jr Parking lot, Jaye Street near Highway 190, Porterville.

Saturday February 8,  9 a.m. to noon

The Celebration will include garden adopters visiting and tending to their gardens, potentially new gardens being planted. Please wear closed toed shoes and bring garden tools and gloves if available. UC Extension Master gardeners are attending this event as garden advisors.

New gardens will be planted on this day and irrigation systems for planted gardens will be completed in preparation for the coming summer months. Adopters will be doing light maintenance on gardens that have already been planted. Wear closed toed shoes and bring garden tools and gloves if available.

Adopters will be doing light maintenance on gardens that have already been planted. Restoration area maintenance tasks include watering, light weeding, and mulching. Please wear closed toed shoes and bring gloves and tools if available.

Meeting Place: Jaye Street Bridge Parking Lot on the south bank of the Tule River in Porterville.

Saturday April 4, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Docent lead walk on the Tule River Parkway. Spring wildflowers should be in full bloom along the parkway. Come out and see native elderberry and clarkias providing nectar to butterflies. The walk will be at a leisurely pace for 3 miles or less with time to examine the spring growth in the gardens and along the parkway.
