wo people were killed in a vehicle collision on Friday on Orange Belt Drive near the intersection of Avenue 184, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A 63-year-old man from Porterville and his male passenger was killed in the crash. At about 6:15 p.m Friday the 63-year-old man was driving his 2000 Saturn southbound north of the inter of the intersection of Avenue 184 at an undetermined speed. Elias Navarro, 61 of Porterville was driving his 2012 Dodge pickup truck behind the Saturn at about 55 mile per hour.
Rene Rocha, 30 of Terra Bella, was driving his 2014 Honda Civic northbound on Orange Belt Drive, south of the intersection with Avenue 184 at 60 mph. The Saturn suddenly stopped directly in front of the Dodge, possibly to make a left turn onto eastbound Avenue 184.
The front end of the Dodge collided into the rear of the Saturn. The force of the impact caused the Saturn to rotate on its wheels and into the path of the Honda.
The front end of the Honda collided into the Saturn. The Saturn and the Honda came to rest blocking the intersection. The Dodge came to rest south of the intersection.
The 63-year-old man and his male passenger died at the scene and were later extricated from the Saturn.
Navarro was transported to Sierra View Hospital for a cut to his forehead. Rocha sustained a minor abrasion to his right arm.
The CHP stated there was no impairment involving Navarro or Rocha.
