The California Highway Patrol reported the 38-year-old man was driving a black Ford pickup truck southbound on Road 248 north of Avenue 82 at unknown speed shortly before 7 a.m. A 68-year-old Ducor man was driving a white Kenworth tractor, pulling a blue Super dump trailer northbound at 50 miles per hour.
As the two vehicles approached, the driver of the Ford allowed his Ford to cross partially into the Kenworth's path of travel.
The driver of the Kenworth turned the Kenworth to the right in an evasive manner, partially driving into the dirt shoulder along the east side of the roadway.
The front left side of the Ford collided with the left side of the Kenworth. The Ford continued forward, and its front left side collided with both the front and rear left tires of the Super dump trailer. The force of the impact caused the two trailer axles to detach and the trailer to overturn along the east shoulder. The Ford rotated in a counterclockwise direction where it came to rest along the west edge of the roadway, facing in a northwestern direction. T
he Kenworth came to rest in the northbound lane, facing in a northwestern direction. The Terra Bella man died as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scened.
The CHP stated alchohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision. The CHP also stated the Terra Bella man's seatbelt appeared to have been improperly worn. The driver of the Kenworth was uninjured.
