Several arrests have been made and numerous firearms have been seized as a result of an investigation into an incident in which a man was killed in a shooting at The Mecca on Main Street early Wednesday morning.
Esteban Diaz, 32 of Porterville, was shot and killed in the incident.
At about 12:40 a.m., Porterville Police Officers were dispatched to The Mecca. The reporting person stated a subject had been shot inside the establishment.
Officers arrived and discovered the victim, Diaz, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Emergency medical services arrived; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Porterville Police Department Detectives were summoned to assume control of the murder investigation.
Witnesses were contacted and said the suspect walked up behind the victim and shot him. Witnesses said the suspect fled the bar after he shot Diaz. Video surveillance from the bar was obtained that recorded the incident.
Porterville Police Detectives have been diligently investigating the incident and during the course of serving multiple search warrants, several arrests have been made in conjunction with this investigation. During these search warrants, 17 firearms, which include handguns, rifles, and assault rifles have been seized. In addition, hundreds of rounds of ammunition along with cocaine, a ballistic vest, ski masks, and gloves were located. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated.
