Getting healthy in a way that’s easy and fun is now available at Porterville College this fall semester.
Popular dance instructor Luis Aguilar will be teaching “Contemporary Ballroom and Line Dancing” through the Continuing Education Department at Porterville College, Mondays 6-8 p.m. beginning September 9 in the Fitness Center Room FIT744.
“Our recent Summer Session was a great success,” states Aguilar. “We had students exceed their personal expectations. I presented many line dances, some fast paced, others slow, some simple, others more complex. I also introduced a variety of ballroom dances. All students had a good time, were full of smiles, and experienced good success. They are dancers now.”
The many benefits of dancing continue. Memory enhancement retrieving step-sequences of line dances and ballroom, like Waltz, Cha-Cha, Night Club Two Step, Bachata and others, cross over into better memory skills in daily life. Aguilar’s class gradually moves toward a fast self-paced cardio-exercise, building stamina which allows for increased muscle strength, stronger bones, and ease of movement.
Aguilar points out, “There is nothing better to improve your balance than dance. In my class you will practice conscious foot placement, weight transfer, and posture, all integrated in the dance form. If you have an issue with balance, you will see much improvement after a semester of Contemporary Ballroom and Line Dance. It is a great benefit to have Porterville College offer this class for our community. I encourage you to enroll in the new fall semester class.”
Students may enroll at the Registrar’s Office, online at https://porterville.asapconnected.com/ or come to class for assistance in the enrollment process. Fee for the semester is $25.
