A man was killed in a traffic collision on Thursday morning near Ducor.
At about 7 a.m. Thursday, the Porterville California Highway Patrol responded to a traffic collision in the area of Avenue 56 and Road 176 between Ducor and Earlimart.
An ambulance also reported to the scene. Conditions at the collision site were foggy with visibility less than 500 feet.
CHP reported in its preliminary investigation a Honda Odyssey was traveling eastbound on Avenue 56 west of Road 176, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling behind the Odyssey and a Honda Civic was following the Chevrolet. A Mini Cooper was also traveling westbound on Avenue 56 west of Road 176.
When CHP arrived it was determined there was a head-on collision between the Mini Cooper and Chevy pickup. The male driver of the Mini Cooper died as a result of the collision.
The driver, Javier Cortez, 45 of McFarland, and the passenger, Jaime U. Hernandez, 30 of Mexico, of the Chevrolet pickup sustained major injuries and were transported to Visalia's Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
The other two vehicles involved, the Odyssey and Civic, collided into the Mini Cooper and Chevy pickup immediately after the collision. The Odyssey and Civic sustained moderate damage and the drivers and passengers in those two vehicles fled the scene.
While on scene, officers received a call the Odyssey was stolen. CHP reported an investigating officer spoke to the registered owner of the Odyssey.
Preliminary investigation hasn't determined who's responsible for the collision. The Porterville are CHS is requesting assistance from the public.
