Porterville Police need assistance to identify wanted subjects

PPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying multiple subjects.

On Oct. 22, an investigation was initiated into a reported theft and unlawful use of credit cards. The victim’s wallet had been stolen and her credit cards were used or attempted to be used at multiple locations throughout Porterville.

Inmate Ricky E. Lewis, 62, died Tuesday at the Bob Wiley Detention Facility in Visalia, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Possess Narcotics

Officers contacted Richard Redwine, 30, during a traffic stop at 7:37 p.m. in the 400 block of North Main Street. He was found to be in possession of over 4 grams of heroin and 16 grams of methamphetamine and scales, for which he was arrested.

Vehicle Pedestrian Traffic Collision

Officers responded at 7:05 a.m. to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision in the 300 block of East Olive Avenue. The motorist was traveling eastbound on Olive Avenue when he struck a pedestrian, who was crossing Olive Avenue in a marked crosswalk. The pedestrian sustained a head injury and broken knee as a result of the collision, however he was responsive and able to follow directions. The motorist said he never saw the pedestrian due to the bright sunlight while traveling east.

Grand Theft

Officers responded at 1:02 p.m. to Maduena’s Smog, 675 N. Plano St., regarding a grand theft report. The victim reported that unknown suspect(s) took a Snap-On Modis scanner, Snap-On ratchet set and other miscellaneous tools from his business sometime over the past two months. The loss was estimated at $7,738.79.

Burglary

Officers responded at 4:29 p.m. to the 600 block of North Plano Street regarding a burglary report. The caller stated unknown suspect(s) broke into a locked storage unit and took a tackle box, carburetor, camping equipment and a cam-shaft tool. The incident occurred sometime between Jan. 20 and today’s dated. The loss was estimated at $2,000.

Stolen Motorcycle

Officers responded at 4:11 p.m. to the 300 block of East Poplar Avenue regarding a stolen motorcycle. The victim stated unknown suspect(s) took his white 1996 Honda XR200 dirt bike from a trailer on his property. The loss was estimated at $1,200.

Stolen Motor Vehicle

A red 1997 Honda Civic was reported stolen from the area of Main Street and College Avenue. It was taken in the morning hours.

Arson / Under the Influence

Detectives were notified by a City transit employee that a subject had set fire to a trash can at the bus stop in front of the Tulare County Superior Court on Olive Avenue. The transit employee extinguished the fire prior to notifying making the report. Pedro Garcia, 38, was contacted and admitted to deliberately setting the trash inside the can on fire so he could go to jail. Garcia was arrested and booked into jail.

Fail to Yield / DUI / Resisting Arrest / Possess Stolen Property

Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle on Olive Avenue at Jaye Street. The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued, ending at Walnut Avenue at G Street. This vehicle and parties inside were determined to have committed a theft from Rite Aid earlier and the stolen alcoholic beverages were located inside the vehicle. Passenger Frankie Andrade, 22, was arrested and booked into jail. The remaining three occupants, all juveniles, were arrested and booked into juvenile hall.

PORTERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

Under the Influence / Theft

Officers responded at 3:48 p.m. to Sierra View Medical Center regarding the theft of a wallet with a suspect still on the premises. SVMC staff was able to obtain the wallet of the victim, which was missing approximately $40. Through review of surveillance, SVMC staff was able to identify the suspect and his whereabouts. The suspect, Martin Garcia, 25, was contacted and determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance and he was arrested. 

Attempted Auto Theft

Officers responded at 2:57 p.m. to Vallarta Supermarket regarding vehicle tampering. The victim parked his GMC Yukon in the backlot at 5:40 a.m. and returned at 2:40 p.m., discovering someone had tampered with the ignition in an attempt to steal it.
