Our 2019 Porterville Corporate Games is kicking off next Saturday with a volleyball tournament and we know the rivalries are already heating up.

There are 14 battling it out for the coveted Corporate Cup.  Joining the competition this year:  Beneficial State Bank, Burton School District, City of Porterville, Eagle Mountain Casino, OACYS Technology, Setton Pistachio, Sierra View Medical Center, Town & Country Market, Tule River Economic Development Corp., Tule River Indian Health Center, and two teams from the Tule River Tribe and Walmart Distribution Center.

Regardless of who’s victorious, we see the real value in the camaraderie that develops in all participants.  It really brings co-workers together in a unique way and serves as an avenue to connect to other organizations in town.  One team will walk away with the coveted Corporate Cup, but we know everybody who joined in to play will leave with memories. Follow us on social media or visit portervillecorporategames.com to keep up on all the action!

Pioneer Days

& Rib Cook-Off

Have your friends and family ever commented on your grilling skills?  Maybe it’s time to put them to the test and showcase what you got because we’re calling all backyard barbecue enthusiasts to join our Rib Cook-off for a great cause. Try your hand at grilling the perfect barbecue ribs for a chance to win cash prizes or the People’s Choice trophy at the seventh annual Pioneer Days & Rib Cook-off on October 12.  Cost to enter the cook-off is only $100 and includes the ribs. Pioneer Days is a fundraiser with 100 percent of the proceeds going to preserve and protect Porterville’s Zalud House Museum. Built in 1891, the house is one of few homes from that era that has not undergone any remodeling and one of few museums in the nation that’s furnished entirely with the owners’ original possessions. Entry packets for the rib cook-off are available at our new location, 15 E. Thurman Ave., or online. You can enter as a team or as an individual.

Youth Basketball

Registration for our Youth Basketball League will begin on September 13.  This league is open to children ages 5- 13.  Practices will begin in October and games will start in December.  Our league welcomes all skill levels and develops fundamentals, character and sportsmanship.  The goal is to foster a positive, pressure-free environment without putting too much stress on the points or outcome of the game. We want your child to enjoy basketball and look forward to playing with us again the following season. The cost of the league is only $50 and includes a team shirt and basketball. If you volunteer to coach, we will give you a $5 discount on registration. I recommend skipping the lines and saving some time by registering online. If you want to register in person, remember that we are in our new location across from City Hall. Space is limited!

Music on Main

Spend your Friday evenings relaxing in a park and listening to some tunes from local talent.  Music on Main will kick off its fall series on September 6 with Praise and Company followed by the Mariachi Academy on September 13. Bring out your lawn chairs and blankets for free concerts from 6-8 p.m. every Friday evening in Centennial Park. Dancing and picnic dinners are welcome. Music on Main continues through October and is co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and City of Porterville.
