Player with Porterville ties signs

Josh Turner, the son of Mark and Joette, has signed a letter of intente to play baseball at Northwestern College, an NAIA power in Iowa.
Mark grew up in Porterville and his mother and Josh's grandmother, Mary Turner, still lives on Porterville.
Turner is a 6-5 pitcher/infielder from Ogden High in Iowa. Last season, Turner was named to the all-state first team after leading Ogden to a 20-5 record as a junior. He finished with a 7-1 record and one save on the mound. In 44 1/3 innings, Turner allowed 16 hites, walked 22, struck out 87 and had an 0.79 earned run average. As the starting shortstop last season, Turner hit .486 with 16 extra base hits, 27 runs and 28 RBI.
In his high school career in 117 innings, Turner has allowed 76 hits, waked 84 and struck out 196 with a career record of 13-7 and five saves. Offensively for his career, Turner has hit .352 with 59 runs, 49 RBI, 17 doubles, six triples and six home runs.
Turner is a four-sport athlete at Ogden as he was alsonamed to the all-district football team this past fall. He is currently averaging 14.2 points a game in basketball and was the school’s top 110-meter hurdler and high jumper in track last spring. Turner plans to major in Sports/Business Management.
“We are extremely excited to have Josh join our baseball program,” Northwestern coach Brian Wede said. “He is a very gifted athlete who can play baseball at a high level and knows how to compete. He is very familiar with Northwestern and what we are trying to accomplish as an institution. With those two things in mind, I have no doubt he will be an impact player for us and help us continue to put a high level team on the field.”
