Tuesday's Roundup: Monache, Exeter paste league opponents
The sun shone through a cloudless sky in Porterville, Britney Spears continued to make headlines and the Exeter volleyball team won a game.
A Monarchs win has been nearly just as common as those frequent occurrences this month, as they have now rattled off 10 straight CSL wins.
Selma was the latest team in Exeter’s path and the Monarchs wasted little time, sweeping the Bears 3-0.
Coach Alanna Montgomery was not totally content with the victory however.
“In general, we didn’t play as well as we should at this point in the season,” Montgomery said. “I wish we were sharper.”
Kendra Amann powered the offense with 14 kills, while Sabina Lopez led defensively with 40 digs.
Ashlyn Atkinson helped out with seven kills and Jessica Runyon contributed four kills and two blocks.
Kathryn Hutcheson also notched 15 assists.
Exeter (23-4, 10-0 CSL) has just two more league games (Coalinga, Central Valley Christian) before the playoffs begin.
Monache 3, Cesar Chavez 0
The Marauders continued their recent win streak with a 3-0 win over the Cesar Chavez Titans, Tuesday.
Game scores were 25-11, 25-14 and 25-17.
Rachelle Wiens led the all-around effort with six kills, six blocks and four aces.
Middle blocker Kara Styles added six kills and three blocks and Alli Clem led in kills with eight and blocked two shots.
Monache is now 5-5 in EYL play and has a bye Thursday before finishing its season off next week.
Water Polo
Porterville 18, Tulare Union 5
Porterville remained undefeated in league competition with a smashing of Tulare Western, 18-5, in Tulare.
The Panthers (22-1, 9-0 EYL) remain a game up on second-place Monache in the EYL.
“I thought we controlled the ball very well,” coach Richard Taylor said. “We just wore them down and beat them down the pool.”
Jenna Morris emerged with four goals, two steals and two assists while season scoring leader Kimber Methvin led in goals with five and had three steals.
Kyla Hill led in the distribution department with five assists and scored four goals of her own.
Hannah Risvold also scored three goals.
