Those local heroes honored by the Porterville Exchange Club during its annual Crime Prevention Dinner. Honored were TCSD Deputy of the Year Joe England; County Fireman of the Year Capt. Richardo Castillo; County District Attorney Prosecutor of the Year Kerri Lopez; Highway Patrolman of the Year Matthew Tyler, Porterville Firefighter of the Year Engineer Cody Clem and Porterville Police Officer of the Year Det. Brett McGowen.
Granite Hills basketball player Josh Lewis who has been named the Orange Belt Basketball Player of the Year by Recorder sports editor Charles Whisnand. Also, to first team selections Clay Congdon and Francisco Lopez, also of Granite Hills; Gaven Mann and Jacob Hernandez of Lindsay; Andrew Pearson of Strathmore and Adam Kittrell of Monache.
Gianina Bebb and Robert Evans of Porterville College who were honored as members of the All-California Academic Team.
Once again, to Bob Perez, Kristi Lansford and Jennifer Borror Gilliam who were inducted into the Porterville College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Young’s Commercial Transfer that was inducted into the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.
Sharon Kamberg, who has been named the new superintendent for Burton School District.
Brittany Wynn, an eighth-grader at Alta Vista School, and Charlotte Kouyoumtjian, a fourth-grader at Summit Charter Academy Lombardi School, who both won titles at the United States Girls Wrestling Association’s Northern California Championships.
Those volunteers who spent a good part of their Saturday decorating hats for the Women’s Garden Club Tea fund raiser next month.
Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen award local recipients Gabriela Ceballos of Harmony Magnet Academy, Michele Whitehair of Lindsay High, Vanessa Agudo of Strathmore High, Marnie Kavern of Porterville High and Jessamae Cadiz of Monache High.
The Porterville Patriots 70-and-over softball team that won its division at the Spring Senior Softball Tournament.
