There are many reasons to offer up a cheer this week. Below are a few.

Burton Middle School students who have been working to not only improve the looks of their campus, but the surrounding neighborhoods as well.

All of those who rocked out last Friday at the Porterville Adult Day Services fundraiser, Rockin’s for Alzheimer’s rockathon.

Springville Elementary School student Deanna Buringrud who was named to the All-State Honor Band.

Monache boys soccer that played for the Valley championship.

All of those performers who again delighted hundreds at the annual City of Hope Spectacular.

The Porterville Junior Fair Board that put on the annual Orange Blossom Klassic at the Porterville Fairgrounds last weekend.

Porterville High girl wrestlers Sabrina Sandoval and Natalee Ozuna, who both won medals at the state wrestling tournament. Sandoval took third and Ozuna seventh in their respective weight classes.

Lindsay girls basketball team that will play Saturday for the Valley title.

Lindsay girls soccer team that won the Division V title with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Orange Cove.

Local high school wrestlers Mason Pengilly and Martin Sandoval, both of Porterville High, who won master titles at last weekend’s Valley wresting tournament.

The Porterville Firefighters Association that has been ranked as the top-ranking firefighters union in the state for most dollars raised in the annual Fill the Boot campaign that raises money to fight Muscular Dystrophy.

Former Lindsay council member Suzi Picaso, who used her Hollywood connects to help the county’s film commission and several local companies to promote themselves at a Hollywood pre Oscars party last weekend.

Monache High School girls basketball player Emily Hardin and Porterville’s Jenna Duran who were named to the All-East Yosemite League first team, and to those named to the second team.

Monache boys freshman basketball team that won the league championship.

Lindsay High School’s boys basketball player Gaven Mann, who was named most valuable player in the East Sequoia League, and to Granite Hills High coach Bud Luther who was named coach of the year. Also to first-teamers Josh Lewis, Francisco Lopez and Clay Cogdon from Granite Hills, Jacob Hernandez from Lindsay, and those named to the second team.
