Cheers
There are many reasons to offer up a cheer this week. Below are a few.
Cheers go out to:
— Porterville’s Bear Pascoe who couldn’t have picked a better time to make his first NFL touchdown catch in last weekend’s New York Giants win over the San Francisco 49ers that help put the Giants in next week’s Super Bowl. Good luck Bear in the big game.
— Local students who are getting real-life experience in film making by working with those making the movie “The Devout.”
— Jams “Nacho” Diaz, Neil Peyron, Amy McDarment and Aaron Franco Sr. who were all elected to serve on the Tule River Indian Tribal Council.
— Porterville Police Sgt. Jake Castellow and officer Mark Knox who both were promoted by Police Chief Chuck McMillan.
— Deanna and Rebecca Buringrud who were both accepted into the California All-State (Music) Honor Ensalembles. Sisters, Deanna is a seventh-grader at Springville Elementary and Rebecca is a sophomore at Harmony Magnet Academy.
— Joshua Kelsy, a Harmony Magnet Academy senior, who made eighth chair violist in the California Orchestra Director’s Honor Orchestra.
— Norman Inabinette who was named Woman of the Year, Deputy Ron Crouch who was named Man of the Year; Sierra Youth Athletic Association that was named Organization of the Year and Balch Park Pack Station, owned by Tim and Diane Shew, that was named Business of the Year at the annual Springville Chamber of Commerce banquet.
— Eric Orozco, a Monache High graduate now attending West Hills Community College, who was named to the California Community College State Wrestler of the Year squad.
— Porterville Community Doll Club that donated $800 to the Central California Family Crisis Center of Porterville.
— The Inter Se Circle that donated children’s books to the Porterville City Library.
— The late Esta Mae Hinton, Teresa Jackson, Bill Rodgers, Helen Louise Shires, Orlin Shires and Waltraut Wilson who were all selected to be included in the Porterville Wall of Fame.
— The volunteers that went out on a cold morning Wednesday to survey the number and needs of homeless people in Porterville.
