There are many reasons to offer up a cheer this week. Below are a few.

Cheers go out to:

Veterans Parade chairman Ed Flory and all his volunteers for another job well done Monday.

Veterans Parade grand marshal Jaime Garcia and Honorary Grand Marshal Brig. Gen. Keith Jones.

Joe Vidrio who was honored by Strathmore Youth Football for all he has done for the program.

Jim Kusserow and all the band directors and band members who once again put on a classic show at the Band-A-Rama.

Those citizens who put their lives on the line to break into a burning home last Thursday to be sure the residents were not home as flames consumed the house.

Monache boys cross country that won the East Yosemite League meet.

Porterville College women volleyball players Amanda Monge, Allison Clem and Samantha Sawyer who were all named to the first team all-conference team. Also to the five other players who received recognition.

Porterville High School’s boys water polo team that will play for the Valley Division III championship Saturday.

The Little Bulldogs who won the Porterville Flag Football Division D championship.
Rockford School District bus driver Steve Salter who was honored by the California Highway Patrol as the area Bus Driver of the Year for his heroic efforts in keeping children safe during a shooting along his route.

All of those who donated blood during the annual Battle of the Badges blood drive that netted the Central California Blood Bank about 1,500 pints of blood.

Porterville firefighters who saved an apartment complex next door to a fully involved old garage that burned Monday.

All of the graduates of Porterville College’s Fire Academy.
