Cattlet James Todd

Cattlet James Todd, a resident of Terra Bella for 75 years. Cattlet was born December 26, 1915 in Houston, Arkansas to Walter and Laura Todd. He died Sunday, December 23, 2001 in Porterville, CA. He was 85 years old.

Cattlet was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Terra Bella. He worked for Early Cal Food for 50 years.

Cattlet is survived by his wife Faye Todd of Terra Bella; a son and daughter-in-law Dr. Larry and Susan Todd of Modesto, CA; daughter and son-in-law Dr. Chick and Linda Venturini of Modesto, CA; sisters Lucille Budge of Chatsworth, CA, Roz Flaherty of San Francisco, CA, Betty Conrad and Dorothy Todd of Terra Bella, CA; brother Raymond Todd of Massachusetts; grandchildren Tracy Hagan, Todd Venturini and Tisha Hoch and great granddaughter Abby Faye Hagan, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Terra Bella Church, Saturday, December 29, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Ryan Shrauner, of the United Presbyterian Church, Terra Bella, will conduct the service.

Katie Owens

Katie Merrydith Owens, a resident of Lindsay, died in Strathmore Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001. She was 19.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lindsay First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Trent Oelberg officiating.

Miss Owens was born in Strathmore. She was a graduate of Lindsay High School. She was associate student body president, co-editor of the yearbook and involved in school drama theater. She lettered in volleyball, basketball, softball and wrestling. She was a Lindsay Orange Blossom Festival attendant and a member of the principal search committee at Lindsay High School. She was invloved in Lindsay Community Skimmers and community theater. She was a member of the First Baptist and United Methodist Church and a member of the community choir. She was involved in youth groups and had been on two missions to Mexico. She attended Taft Junior College and was the associate student body vice president. She was president of the search committee and a member of Taft Junior College volleyball team and received a coaches award for 2001. She was named most valuable player of the 1999 Lindsay High School volleyball team.

Survivors include parents, Jan E. and Mary Ann Owens of Lindsay; grandparents, Florence Owens of Fresno and Elease Easley of Stockton; two sisters, Shannon Patterson of Lake Arrowhead and Corrie Owens of Lindsay; and a niece.

Mildred Eidson

Mildred "Mickie" Jean Eidson, a resident of Porterville, died in Porterville Monday, Dec. 24, 2001. She was 71.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Vandalia Cemetery, with Mr. Chris Kellner of the Church of Christ officiating.

Mrs. Eidson was born in Porterville. She was a care provider with Good Shepherd Lutheran Home for 15 years.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Eidson of Porterville; four daughters, Sandy Wilson and Christie Bailey, both of Porterville, Robin Brandt of Missouri and Geri Witt of Springville; a step-daughter, Sherida Taylor of Oklahoma; a son, Brian Eidson of Porterville; a step-son, Jimmie Eidson of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Chuck Morris.

Arrangements are under the direction of Myers Funeral Service.

Roberta Varney

Roberta "Jeanne" Varney, a resident of Medford, Ore., died there Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001. She was 76.

Mrs. Varney was born in Bakersfield. She graduated from Stanford University with a degree in psychology and was a co-owner of Bannister Fur

niture Store in Porterville. She worked for Travel Lodge as a coordinator, interior designer and was an independent interior designer for 20 years before retiring. She served as a councilwoman for State Government in California, and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Don Varney of Medford, Ore.; a son, David Bannister of High Point, N.C.; two daughters, Maribeth and Becky Bannister, both of Porterville; three step-daughters, Jackie Dougan of Baker City, Ore., Janice Dinsdale of La Pine, Ore. and Joni Varney of San Francisco; three sisters, Betty E. Miller of Jacksonville, Ore., Dorothy Long of Bakersfield and Mary Jane Koop of Cayucas; a brother, Robert J. Hodson of Bakersfield; and four grandchildren.

Elmer Roberts

Elmer H. Roberts, a resident of Tulare, died there Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001. He was 79.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 at Cypress Hills Memorial Park.

Mr. Roberts was born in Ada, Okla. He attended Sunnyside school and graduated Strathmore Union High School. He worked for Bethlehem Steel in Berkeley during World War II. He was a member and 35 year honoree of the Operating Engineer's Union and a cattle rancher for 16 years.

Survivors include his wife, Marietta Roberts of Tulare.

Memorial contributions may be made to donor's favorite charity.

John Lentz Jr.

John C. Lentz Jr., a resident of Tuolumne, died there Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001. He was 59.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Shadow Cemetery, Sonora.

Mr. Lentz was born in Wilmington, N.C. Formerly of Porterville, he was a resident of Tuolumne for three years. He was raised in Delano and was a graduate of Delano High School. He was active throughout the Porterville community. He was named Porterville's "Man of the Year" several times and Long's "Employee of the Year" twice in a five-year career. He and a partner owned and operated a local catering business for several years. He was a leader in the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodges and was very active in the Catholic Church in Porterville. He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962.

Naomi Ranney

Naomi J. Ranney, a resident of Fruita, Colo., died in Tulare Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001.

She was 61.

As she requested, no services will be held.

Mrs. Ranney was born in Tulare. She was a resident of Fruita, Colo., for 33 years. She worked in data entry for the department of energy and was a member of Canyon View Vineyard Christian Church. She enjoyed crafts.

Survivors include two sons, Mike and James Moore Ranney, both of Fruita, Colo.; a daughter, Debbie Melton of Grand Junction, Colo.; two brothers, Robert Cates of Porterville and Billy Cates of San Diego; a sister, Virginia Murdock of Arroyo Grande; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
