Henry Wilson Barrett, Sr.

Henry Wilson Barrett, Sr., 88, of Lindsay died October 17, 2002 at Lindsay Gardens.

Henry Barrett, Sr. was born on April 25, 1914 in Belton, Texas. He married Nettie Cora Gibbens of Lindsay in 1985.

Mr. Barrett Sr. moved from Texas in late 1935 to California, landing in Lindsay in 1936. He worked at the Masseli Olive Plant and in 1957 became a self-employed home builder. In 1964 he and his first wife Ruth were house parents at the Sierra Childrens Home in Vacaville, CA for 11 and a half years. They moved to Porterville and lived there until Ruth passed away in 1984. He then moved to Lindsay where he resided with his wife Nettie.

Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by his son Robert "Bobby" Barrett in May 1997, brothers Mayo and Thomas Wade Barrett and sister Marie Speck. Grandchildren Clinton Wilson Steelman, Patricia Guinn and Lori Barrett.

Survivors include his wife Nettie Cora Barrett of Lindsay, son, Henry Wilson Barrett, Jr. of Belton, TX, daughters Dolores Guinn of Corning, CA and Elwanda Steelman of Henderson, TN, brothers Ford Barrett of Visalia, CA and James Sharp of Shreveport, LA and sisters, Cleo Rose, Violet White and Ruth Williams, all of Visalia, CA, 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren and adopted children Donna Heck of Gresham, OR, Charlene Cobb of Manteca, CA and Joe Richey of Antioch, CA.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at Lindsay Church of Christ with Mr. Don Guinn and Mr. Bill Steelman officiating. Burial was at Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Webb-Sanders Funeral Home.

Margaret Medina

Margaret Olbera Medina of San Jose, a former Porterville resident, died in San Jose on Friday, Nov. 1, 2002. She was 81.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Whitehurst Loyd Chapel.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Whitehurst Loyd Chapel in Porterville. A Catholic graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Home of Peace Cemetery.

Father Jose Luis Rico of St. Anne's Catholic Church will officiate.

Mrs. Medina was born in Reedley and was a homemaker for 60 years.

She lived in San Jose for 48 years.

She is survived by a brother, Luther Olbera, and a sister, Cleo Perez, both of Porterville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jose Medina, who died in 1990, and by a sister, Ina Resendez.

Arrangements are under the direction of Whitehurst Loyd Funeral Service.
