Porterville native named state director for conservative women's group
Concerned Women for America — a conservative women’s advocacy group — has announced the selection of Porterville native Patricia Thompson as state director of California.
As CWA state director, Thompson is charged with representing the legislative action committee, directing statewide efforts, and serving as volunteer leader for CWA’s activists within the state.
“I am blessed, honored and excited to be a part of what God is doing in California,” Thompson said Monday. “I look forward to this opportunity and to help people understand these issues.”
Thompson, a 1965 Porterville High School graduate, said she first became involved with CWA as a prayer/action chapter leader in 2008. Prayer/action chapters are groups of women and men who pray and act on issues and legislation that affects California families.
“California will benefit from Patricia’s willingness to serve others by providing trustworthy leadership as the state director of CWA of California. Her efforts will promote thoughtful and moral policies that build a strong foundation for California families,” stated Penny Nance, CEO and president of CWA, in a news release issued Saturday.
Thompson rose through the ranks serving as the organization’s Central California area director; building membership and prayer/action chapters.
She has also served in the leadership of Aglow International — an interdenominational organization of Christian women and men, has ministered in prisons and on various prayer teams. She has also ministered in Ecuadorian churches, street outreaches and with children.
As California’s new state director, Thompson will work with nearly 28,000 members in the state to organize additional prayer/action chapters, coordinate CWA’s grassroots activities in legislation and media, and recruit new members.
“CWA’s goals are to preserve the eternal values that support biblical design of the family, protect innocent life at all stages, fight pornography and obscenity, tackle the declining quality of education, support the rights of individuals to pray and worship without persecution and increase understanding of the United Nations and its agenda,” the news release further states.
As her first act as the state director of CWA of California, Thompson has planned a Training and Lobby Day for March 10 and 11.
The public is welcome to attend.
Sunday evening will be a time of prayer and training.
Thompson along with California activist Connie Cox, and Kenda Bartlett, national field director of CWA, will be helping to prepare participants for a day at the capitol.
A full day of activities is planned for March 11. The group will hear from legislators, lobby, prayer-walk the capitol grounds, tour the capitol, and fellowship with others.
For more information, contact Thompson at 359-8884.
