Symphony concert features well-known tunes
VISALIA
The Tulare County Symphony will present music well known to the public at its Jan. 19 concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Visalia Fox Theater.
Flutist Tracy Harris will play themes from the opera “Carmen†by Francois Borne. Concertgoers will recognize such tunes as “The Song of the Toreador,†“Habañera†and “Gypsy Dance.†Harris has played all over the country but makes Tulare County her home and has often played with the symphony.
Other pieces include “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,†made famous in Disney’s “Fantasia,†and Ravel’s “Bolero,†which is built on an unchanging rhythm played on the snare drums and became well known when it was played in the movie “10.â€
Tickets are $30 to $39.50 at the symphony office, 732-8600. Student prices are $10. Tickets are also available at www.gorillatix.com.
Come early at 6:45 p.m. for Music Director Bruce Kiesling’s behind-the-scenes talk about the music.
