Slow week leads to busy South County weekend

Fun: Several events on tap Saturday.

Children in Porterville and Lindsay return to school Monday, but the payoff for the week comes Saturday when several community activities and events are planned.

The school year begins Tuesday in Springville.

The roster of community events on tap this week includes:

Friday Night Market
The seasonal Friday Night Market continues this week in Lindsay.

The market opens at 5:30 and ends about 10:30 p.m. at Sweet Brier Plaza.

Fresh produce, food vendors, games and activities geared toward children, and weekly entertainment is available each week. This week’s scheduled entertainment is the band Famosh.

The event is free and open to the public.

This year’s Friday Night Market opened in early March and continues each Friday through Nov. 21.

Lake Success Play Day
Southern Tulare County Sportsmans Association is sponsoring a Play Day on Saturday at the Lake Success Recreation Area.

The event begins at 7 a.m. and ends at noon.

Participants must have parent or guardian present and hunter safety certification or hunting license. For more information, call Jerry Dunlap, 781-7905.

Hot August Bikes
An all-day motorcycle day filled with a poker run, games, live music, a bike show, tattoo artist, dunk tank, bounce house, vendors and lots of biker games is scheduled Saturday.

The annual event benefits the Porterville Historical Museum and Porterville Adult Day Services.

Registration for the Hot August Bikes traditional poker run is from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Porterville Museum, 257 N. D St. There is a $20 poker run entrance fee, $20 for entering a motorcycle in the show, or $30 for both. Extra poker run hands are $5 each.

Bike Show registration is from 10 to 11 a.m. at Manente’s Bar and Grill, 30311 Avenue 160. The bike show is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Manente’s.

Live music will be from 2 to 10 p.m., and karaoke will be available starting at 10 p.m.

A limited number of camp sites are also available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fantasy Casino Night
The Porterville Breakfast Rotary Club’s annual Fantasy Casino Night is scheduled Saturday at Nuckols Ranch, 13144 Road 216, Porterville.

Festivities begin at 6 p.m.

The night features casino-style games, silent auctions, a full dinner and no-host bar in addition to other entertaining contests.

Advance tickets are $35 each and are available at The Recorder, 115 E. Oak Ave.; The Yellow Rose, 222 W. Henderson Ave.; Gillett Law Office, 211 N. Main St.; Bank of the Sierra, 86 N. Main St.; and online at www.FantasyCasinoNight.com. Tickets include dinner and $1,000 in fun bucks.

Tickets at the door are $40 each and include dinner and $500 in fun bucks.

Those attending must be 21 years old or older.

Hosscar Awards
The Barn Theater is hosting its annual Hosscar Awards celebration Saturday at the historic community theater on Plano Street.

Door open at 7 p.m. for a reception featuring hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar. The show begins promptly at 7:30 p.m.

The show recognizes the best work both on stage and behind the scenes from the current season. It is directed by Wendy Plaisted and Wesley Cox.

Tickets are $10 per person and are available at the theater. Reservations are required. The deadline to reserve seats is Friday.

Hot Summer Nights Bull Bash
The Springville Hot Summer Nights Rodeo Bull Bash is scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Springville Rodeo Grounds, located on the north side of the Highway 190 just west of Springville.

The gate opens at 5 p.m. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 years old, with children under 6 admitted free.

Tri-tip dinners will be for sale.

A dance begins after the bash. Entertainment will be provided by local country western singers The Longriders.

Diamond Rio to play Eagle Mountain Casino
The band Diamond Rio is playing at 4 p.m. Sunday at Eagle Mountain Casino.

Diamond Rio is a six-time Vocal Groups of the Year award recipient. Their hits include "One More Day," "Unbelievable" and "Beautiful Mess."

Tickets are $30 and $40 and are available at the casino gift shop.
