What are local representatives doing in Washington D.C.?

Today representatives from the Tulare County Association of Governments are in Washington D.C. for their annual lobbying trip — “One Voice.” The local representatives are staying at the Holiday Inn Capitol at 550 C Street S.W. Washington D.C.

Today is their last day in the nation's capitol to lobby for federal appropriations for road projects such as Highway 198 and Highway 99 projects, $1.5 million for Highway 198 and Plaza Drive corridor improvements and air quality improvement programs.

Among those in attendance are Fifth District Supervisor Mike Ennis and Porterville City Councilman Felipe Martinez.

Approximately $30,000 was allotted to fund the trip.

A meeting with Chief of Staff to Rep. George Radanovich, R-Mariposa

10:30 a.m.

A meeting with Mike Koontz to discuss the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Improvement Program

11:30 a.m.

A meeting with the House Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee Staff of the House Appropriations Committee

Noon

A meeting with Fred Abousleman, the executive director of the National Association of Regional Councils

A meeting with Sen. Barbara Boxer

A meeting to discuss railroads, pipelines and hazardous materials with staff of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee

2 p.m.

A meeting with the staff of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Highway and Transit, the subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee

A meeting with Rep. Jim Costa, D-Fresno

7 p.m.
