Norman Washington

Norman Washington, a resident of Springville, died in Porterville Tuesday, May 31, 2005. He was 69.


A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Vandalia Cemetery in Porterville, with the Rev. Betty Washington, and the Rev. Rudy Ramirez and Gary H. Gray, all officiating.


Mr. Washington, a native of Pennsylvania, was a resident of Springville for 25 years. He was the founder and writer of the monthly publication, "The Encourager". He collected coins, enjoyed fishing and watching the wildlife from his porch at his Springville home. He served in the United States Army. He was a retired groundskeeper, formerly employed by Porterville College for 13 years.


He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Washington of Springville; five sons, James Shevock of San Lorenzo, Ronald Shevock of Porterville, Larry Shevock of Provo, Utah, Norman Washington of Reno, Nev. and David Washington of Syracuse, Utah; one daughter, Donna Shevock of South Lake Tahoe; one brother, William Washington of Warren, Ohio; two sisters, Vannie Leventry of South Fork, Pa. and Virginia Albany of Johnston, Pa; and one grandchild.


He was preceded in death by two brothers.


Whitehurst Loyd Funeral Home in Porterville is in charge of arrangements.
