Crime blotter 1/11/13

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Elder Abuse
Officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of North Murry Street and contacted a 75-year-old victim. The victim reported his granddaughter, Denise Amaya, 31, pushed him down during a physical altercation. The victim advised he has been having numerous verbal arguments with Amaya and she has become assaultive. Amaya was arrested for elder abuse and booked at the Tulare County Jail.

Attempt Burglary / Vandalism
An officer was flagged down in the area of Grand Avenue and E Street by a motorist. The reporting party stated someone had vandalized her vehicle. The reporting party advised her 1994 gray Toyota Camry was parked in front of her residence on West School Avenue last night and an unknown suspect had damaged the lock to the driver’s side door. It appeared someone had used an unknown pry tool to attempt to gain access into the vehicle by damaging the lock.

Public Intoxication
Officers responded to the area of Highway 190 and Plano Street regarding two subjects who were intoxicated. It was further reported that one was wearing a Porterville Police Department jacket with patches. Officers contacted Kenneth Thompson, 59, and Joel Reyna, 34. Thompson was wearing a black Porterville Police Department jacket and officers were unable to identify who the jacket may have been issued to. Neither subject had any past or present affiliation to the police department; therefore, it was collected and logged into PPD Evidence for safekeeping. Both subjects were arrested for public intoxication and a misdemeanor warrant was confirmed for Thompson. Both subjects were booked at Tulare County Jail.

Injury Traffic Collision
An officer was driving in the area of Save Mart on West Olive Avenue when he witnessed a red Mitsubishi Eclipse northbound on D Street. A gray Toyota Camry pulled out from the Save Mart parking lot directly in front of the red Mitsubishi causing the Mitsubishi to collide into the gray Camry. Both driver’s were transported to Sierra View for complaint of pain.

Man Down
Officers were dispatched to a man down in the area of Plano Street and Olive Avenue. Officers arrived and provided medical aid to the male subject. Ambulance personnel arrived and subsequently transported the subject to Sierra View for treatment. In spite of medical attention, the subject passed away. The ER doctor advised the subject likely suffered a stroke or heart attack.

Burglary / Possession of a Controlled Substance
Officers responded to CVS on East Olive Avenue. The reporting party stated an unknown person had picked up her prescription of Norco pills from the pharmacy without her permission. After reviewing the video surveillance footage, the suspect was positively identified as Ashley Mayo, 25. Officers responded and arrested Mayo for the theft and possession of the pills. Mayo was subsequently booked at the Tulare County Jail.

Warrant Arrest
Officers contacted Ruben Avalos, 42, during a pedestrian contact at Main Street and Vine Avenue. He had a warrant for his arrest and was booked at PPD.

Warrant Arrest
Mike Giron, 42, was contacted at a residence in the 300 block of North Salisbury Street during a call for service. He had a felony warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody. He was later transported to TCSO for housing.
