Crime blotter 12/29/12

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Saturday, Dec. 29

Vehicle Burglary
Officers responded the 1800 block of West Westfield Avenue regarding a vehicle burglary. The victim stated between midnight and 9 a.m., a suspect broke into his 2004 Chevy Silverado and stole his stereo from the dashboard. The suspects attempted to steal the truck; however they were unable to.

Auto Theft
Officers responded to the 2100 block of West Westfield Avenue regarding a stolen vehicle. The victim stated between 9:30 p.m. and 10 a.m., a suspect smashed the window to his black 2005 Chevy Silverado and stole the truck.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to 1700 block of West Olive Avenue regarding a residential burglary. The victim stated suspect(s) entered the apartment and stole a laptop and a surround sound DVD system. The case remains under investigation.

Possession of a
Prohibited Weapon
Officers responded to Prospect Street and Mulberry Avenue regarding the report of subjects drinking in the parking lot. Shannon Plunk, 34, was contacted and a search of his clothing revealed he had two concealed fixed-bladed knives in his boots. He was arrested for possession of the illegal weapons and he was booked at the Porterville Substation.

Residential Burglary
Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North Leggett Street regarding a residential burglary. The victim returned home to find her garage door open and a box of old clothing was missing.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
James Bermudez, 48, was contacted in the 100 block of South Doree Street following a dispute with family members. Bermudez was in possession of a glass pipe and he displayed objective symptoms of controlled substance use. He was arrested, booked and housed at the substation.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Officers were dispatched to Sierra View District Hospital regarding a battery victim. The victim was in CHP custody for DUI and had a scalp wound requiring stitches. The victim said he was assaulted by occupants of a small white Dodge Neon in the area of East Vandalia Avenue. The victim was uncooperative with additional information and he did not want a police report.

Injury Traffic Collision (Vehicle versus Pedestrian)
Officers responded to the 200 block of North Newcomb Street regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision. The pedestrian, a 49-year-old male, was found lying in the roadway at the scene with a head laceration and complaint of pain to his left leg. The vehicle’s windshield was shattered and it was apparent the pedestrian had been struck by the front of the vehicle and had rolled onto the front hood and into the windshield.
The pedestrian was conscious and was responsive to medical questions at the scene. He was immediately transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital by ambulance as a precaution for injuries. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and he had an odor of alcoholic beverage on his person. He was not in a crosswalk or at an intersection when he was struck by the vehicle. The pedestrian was treated for a broken leg, contusions and a laceration on his head. He was treated and released from Kaweah Delta.

DUI
Officers stopped a swerving vehicle, which was being followed by a reporting citizen in the area of Matthew Street and Garden Avenue. The driver, Susanna Lovio, 37, displayed objective symptoms of intoxication and was subsequently arrested for DUI. Lovio was booked at the PPD.
