'Veterans Stand Down' is Wednesday

Local veterans will have an opportunity to learn of the various services available to them during the “Veterans Stand Down” event on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Available resources will include healthcare claims assistance, veterans services organizations, elderly care, resources and benefits for veterans’ family members, health screenings, specialty programs, information and assistance on locally available resources, mortgages and housing information, low-income subsidy programs, education assistance and much more.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Porterville Elks Lodge, 386 N. Main St., on the southeast corner of Main Street and Morton Avenue.

Spouses, families and loved ones of veterans are encouraged to attend.

There will also be free boot and gear, free food and free haircuts.

The event is sponsored by the Elks Lodge #1234, VA Central California Health Care System, VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Caring Veterans Inc., California State Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Health Administration, Office of Rural Health.
