Crime blotter 2/21/13

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Thursday, Feb. 21

Burglary
Officers responded to the 1500 block of North Mathew Street regarding a residential burglary. The victim reported that suspects ransacked the residence and stole a CDC ballistic vest, Sam Browne Duty belt, Stinger flashlight, JVC camcorder, Cannon Rebel digital camera with a telephoto lens, Apple iPad, Apple 3G cell phone, a Playstation 3 and a green low-rider bicycle. Physical evidence was located and collected.

Auto Theft / Burglary
Officers responded to the 900 block of South Indiana Street regarding a burglary to the residence, an RV and a travel trailer on the property. Officers contacted the victim who advised between Jan. 3 and today an unknown suspect had burglarized the property, took a 1999 Gold Dodge Stratus, and a homemade utility trailer. The victim reported clothes, tools, antiques, washer, dryer, furniture, and painting supplies were taken from all three locations.

Located Stolen Vehicle
Officers were driving in the area of E Street and Orange Avenue when a Gold Dodge Stratus was observed. A registration check discovered the vehicle was reported stolen earlier today. Officers processed the vehicle and located evidence. The investigation is ongoing.

Possession of Methamphetamine / Criminal Possession of a Firearm / Transportation of Methamphetamine / Possession of Methamphetamine for Sale / DUI
Officers were in the area of Town and Country market when a vehicle matching the description of a suspect vehicle used in a theft from Target was observed. A traffic stop was made and the driver, Miguel Angel Garcia, 22, was contacted. The officer immediately positively identified Garcia as the subject he observed committing the theft at Target. Garcia was detained and the passenger, Daniel Quilling, 22, was contacted. Quilling had 3 warrants and was also detained. The vehicle was searched and the following was located: a 20-gauge shotgun, a replica handgun, methamphetamine, cocaine, packaging materials for narcotics, digital scales, a knife stolen from Target and drug paraphernalia. Garcia was found to be a convicted felon. Both suspects were transported to the Tulare County Jail and booked for above-listed charges.

Fraudulent Use of an Access Card
Officers responded to the 200 block of North Beverly Street and contacted the victim who advised, Briana Jean Cochran, 32, had used her Well’s Fargo bank card at different locations in Porterville incurring a $1,200 loss. The officer took the report and Briana is being sought by police regarding this investigation.
