Crime blotter 1/1/13

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Grand Theft
Officers were dispatched to the Police Department regarding a theft that occurred at a residence in the 1100 block of North Newcomb Street. The victim stated unknown subject(s) made entry into his unlocked vehicle. Once inside, the subject(s) took a Dell laptop, a Blackberry cell phone, and a bag of toys. Physical evidence was located at the scene.

Vehicle Burglary
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1900 block of West Nancy Avenue regarding a vehicle burglary. The victim stated unknown subject(s) forced entry into his locked Ford Escort. Once inside, the subject(s) took insurance paper work, the vehicle owner’s manual, a blue tooth ear piece, and a garage door opener. Physical evidence was located at the scene.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of North Verdugo Street regarding a theft from a vehicle. The victim reported that subject(s) made entry into his unsecured garage. Once inside, the subjects took a Kirby vacuum cleaner and lawn mower.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of West Castle Avenue regarding a burglary. The victim stated subject(s) forced entry into his residence. Entry was made through the front door and once inside the subject(s) took a 42 inch flat screen television, a pair of gold earrings, a gold rosary, keys to a vehicle (vehicle was not taken).

Robbery
Officers were dispatched to Union Bank regarding a robbery. Officers contacted the victim who stated a unknown subject pointed what he believed to be a gun at him and demanded his money. The victim gave the subject $300.00 and the suspect fled south through the alley. The investigation is on-going.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South A Street regarding a residential burglary. The victim stated subject(s) made entry into his locked residence and stole a small amount of cash.

Police Pursuit
Officers located a red Ford Mustang with a black racing stripe in the area of Villa Street and Putnam Avenue. This vehicle matched the description of a vehicle used in recent burglaries. A traffic stop was attempted; however, the vehicle began to evade officers and a pursuit began. During the pursuit, it was determined that the vehicle was stolen out of Redding, California. Officers pursued the vehicle to Balch Park and Highway 190 where the pursuit was terminated. The vehicle was located later in the day abandoned on Blue Ridge Road in Springville. Porterville Police Officers recovered the vehicle and the case is being investigated further by detectives.

Attempted Burglary
Officers responded to Dr. Yost Dentistry regarding a subject seen running from the business. Upon officers’ arrival, all of the doors were secured; however, somebody had attempted to pry open a storage room door on the east side of the business.
