A 19-year-old youth was severely injured Tuesday morning when for an unknown reason he lost control of his vehicle and it overturned several times.

The collision occurred at 8 a.m. near the intersection of Olive Avenue and Beverly Street, although no other vehicles were involved.

According to police, the man was westbound on Olive Avenue at a high rate of speed and lost control of his small vehicle about 500 feet short of Beverly Street. After colliding with the center median, the vehicle rolled over multiple times across the eastbound lanes of Olive

Avenue, coming to rest facing eastbound on the curb of the southeast corner of the intersection.

Passersby tended to the injured man until emergency personnel arrived. The man was alone in the vehicle and he was not ejected.

The driver, who was not identified, was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. His condition was not updated by police.
