Arrest made in stolen vehicle case

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

A man was allegedly caught Thursday driving a stolen vehicle and was arrested.

Porterville police Department responded at 11:10 a.m. to the 400 block of North Prospect Street for a stolen vehicle report.

The stolen vehicle was located at about 2:50 p.m. with the driver driving in the area of Prospect Street and Mulberry Avenue by the victim’s friends, police report.

The vehicle was followed to the 1100 block of North San Carlos Street, where the driver, Jonathan Chavez, 18, reportedly fled from the vehicle on foot.

Chavez was found a short time later, walking in the area, and was arrested without incident. He was also allegedly found to have a felony warrant for his arrest.

He was booked on suspicion of grand theft auto, possession of stolen property and an arrest warrant.
