A 25-year-old Tulare woman has been sentenced to 120 days in county jail and 5 years felony probation for obtaining more than $8,000 through fraud.

Judge James Hollman sentenced Alma Flores Wendesday in Tulare County Superior Court.
According to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office, on Oct. 3, 2012, Alma Flores pled guilty to one count of felony welfare fraud, which arose from her receipt of aid by misrepresentation.

An investigation revealed that between March 2011 and February 2012, Flores made false statements to receive undue compensation and fraudulently obtained $8,750 in welfare aid.

As a condition of her probation, Flores is required to pay full restitution to the Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency, as well as 10 percent annual interest. If she fails to pay, the judge may sentence her to additional time in custody.
