Granite Hills tops Academic Decathlon again
School will represent Tulare County at state competition
Porterville’s Granite Hills High School will once again represent Tulare County at the state level of Academic Decathlon after earning top honors at this weekend’s county competition.
Schools both large and small competed Saturday and Sunday at the regional championship for a chance to prove their mettle versus a host of high school teams in a ten-event series including tests, essays and speeches.
Granite Hills took home multiple recognitions of its academic prowess, taking the titles of Top Large School and Top SuperQuiz Team, as well as individual awards for Top Scholastic Student and Top Varsity Student.
Team 1 from Porterville High School was also recognized for their strong score, placing third in the Large School category.
The Granite Hills team was coached by Elissa Lombardi — a new coach for Granite Hills Academic Decathlon teams, previously led by long-time coach Mark Harriger.
