Hit-and-run suspect arrested

TERRA BELLA — Authorities arrested Porterville man David Quiej Chay, 26, after determining he allegedly hit and killed a pedestrian at about 6:10 a.m on Saturday.

Chay, who was uninjured, reportedly fled the scene and abandoned his vehicle in a nearby orange grove.

Chay had been driving solo in a 1999 Plymouth southbound on Road 236 north of Avenue 100 toward Terra Bella when he reportedly struck an unidentified male pedestrian who was in the road.

It is not known why the man, pronounced dead at approximately 6:13 a.m., had been in the southbound lane.

According to the California Highway Patrol report, Chay did not take evasive action, leading to the collision.

Further investigation led to Chay’s apprehension and arrest.
