A police dog helped track down a 32-year-old Porterville man who ran from police Sunday after he allegedly assaulted an officer while resisting arrest.

The suspect, identified as Alejandro Terminal, was booked at the Tulare County Main Jail where he is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.

The Porterville Police Department reports that on Sunday around 12:20 a.m., the officer saw Terminal in the 1400 block of North Mathew Street, walking in the middle of the roadway with an open alcoholic beverage.

Police say that as the officer attempted to handcuff Terminal, he resisted arrest and struck the officer. During the struggle, Terminal fled on foot and into neighboring yards, the PPD reports.

Terminal was found hiding in a backyard in the 2100 block of West Julianne Avenue.
He was arrested and taken to Sierra View District Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries he suffered from the police dog during the arrest.

Terminal was arrested on suspicion of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, felony warrant, trespassing and felony arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
