WOODLAKE — A Porterville teen was arrested Monday for allegedly killing a young pig after it was stolen from Woodlake High School’s agricultural farm.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 12:30 a.m. May 23 at the Millwood Drive and Avenue 360 site, and was reported at 5:30 p.m. May 24 to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.

Suspects in the case allegedly stole the pig, injuring it in the process. The pig died, and was allegedly tossed aside at a nearby rural location.

Loss was estimated at $100.

Five people were arrested Monday after a week-long investigation by the Agricultural Crimes Unit. Among those arrested was Matthew McMillan, 18, of Porterville.

The others were identified as Alfredo Vigil, 18, of Woodlake, Caleb Crawford, 18, of Elderwood, a 17-year-old boy from Woodlake and a 16-year-old boy from Elderwood.

All were booked on suspicion of grand theft and cruelty to animals, with bail set for each at $25,000.
