Teen arrested in carjacking, two suspects at-large
Police arrested a 15-year-old boy who they believe was involved in a carjacking Tuesday. Two additional suspects remain at-large.
The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. in the 200 block of South B Street. The Porterville Police Department reports that when officers arrived on scene, the victim reported that he was approached by three people while walking to his car. He said one of them pulled out a gun and ordered him to get on the ground.
After complying, the suspects reportedly demanded the victim’s car keys.
Police say that after the victim gave the suspects his keys, one of them took his wallet from his back pocket.
The trio then fled the scene in the victim’s car.
About 20 minutes later, California Highway Patrol officers spotted the stolen car and the three suspects outside of a convenience store at 1060 W. Olive Ave.
Police say that as officers tried to contact them, the suspects fled on foot.
PPD officers responded to help and found the 15-year-old teen inside the store. Police say they also found a gun inside.
The teen was identified as one of the three suspects involved in the carjacking and robbery.
He was later booked at the Juvenile Detention Facility.
Police say that an extensive search for the remaining suspects was conducted with no success.
Officers collected evidence from both crime scenes and the car was returned to the victim.
The case is under investigation and anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the police department at 782-7400.
