THE RECORDER

Taking not much longer than it does to consume a foot-long Subway sandwich, workers with Vollmer Excavation tore down and removed what once was a Subway at Main Street and Oak Avenue early Monday morning.

The small shop owned by Avtar Singh is being removed to make way for a new Subway sandwich shop. The new structure will be larger and two stories, with office space on the second floor.

The store closed Sept. 7 and for the past few weeks workers have been removing items from the store in anticipation of demolishing it. At 6 a.m. Monday, the work began and within minutes the sandwich shop was transformed into a pile of rubbish. Workers then began scooping up what was left of the building to be hauled off. Metal was separated for recycling.

Singh is hoping to have his new store up and ready for opening in January of 2013.

Singh has four other Subway shops in the area, including one in Springville.
