Crime Blotter 01/28/13

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Monday, Jan. 28, 2013
Auto Theft
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of West Monache Avenue regarding a stolen vehicle. Officers contacted the victim who stated subject(s) took his black 2004 GMC Yukon that was parked in his drive way.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of West Belleview Avenue regarding a burglary. Officers contacted the victim who stated subject(s) forced entry into her residence by smashing a living room window. Once inside, the subject(s) took miscellaneous jewelry, two wicker chairs, a Maytag washer and a Maytag dryer. Officers located physical evidence at the scene.

Parolee Arrest
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of North Lime Street regarding a wanted parolee, Louie Ramirez, 30, at this location. Officers arrived on scene and requested Louie come outside. Louie came outside and was taken into custody without incident. He was booked at the Porterville Substation on the parole hold.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to Olive Street Elementary School regarding a burglary. Officer Smalling contacted the reporting party who stated between unknown subject(s) forced entry into a classroom. Entry was made by forcing a window to the classroom open. Once inside, the subject(s) took cash, which was located in a filing cabinet. The subject(s) also ransacked the desks and cabinets in the classroom. Physical evidence was located at the scene.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to S&S Market on West Putnam Avenue regarding a beer run. The clerk stated a Hispanic male adult walked into the business and straight to the beer cooler. The male then pulled out a 30 pack and a 12 pack of beer and walked outside without paying for it. The male subject then got into a grey passenger vehicle and fled the scene.

Minor Injury Collision
Officers responded to a minor injury collision in the area of B Street and Walnut Avenue. Yanet Nava was southbound on B Street when Aurora Carrillo, who was eastbound on Walnut Avenue, failed to yield for the stop sign and they collided in the intersection. Carrillo and her passenger, a 17-year-old male, complained of pain to their shoulders and chest areas but declined medical attention. Both parties were unlicensed and were cited.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
Officers responded to the corner of Pamela Avenue and Mathew Street regarding a hit and run traffic collision involving a light pole. A vehicle lost control and struck a light pole on the northeast corner of the intersection, damaging the side and electrical cover. According to debris at the scene, the suspect vehicle is possibly a white Toyota. Southern California Edison was notified of the damage.

Under the Influence
of a Controlled Substance / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Parolee Arrest
An officer contacted a suspicious subject in a vehicle on the east side of Veteran’s Park. The subject was identified as Armando Orozco, 35. A warrant check revealed that Orozco had a felony parole warrant in the system and was arrested. Orozco was also under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of a glass pipe. He was processed at the PD and later booked at the substation.

Minor Injury Collision
Officers responded to Henderson Avenue and Prospect Street regarding a traffic collision. When officers arrived, both westbound lanes of Henderson Avenue were blocked at Prospect Street. The investigation revealed that Richard Olmedo was eastbound on Henderson Avenue when he turned northbound onto Prospect Street in the path of Courtney Perigo, who was westbound Henderson Avenue. Perigo complained of pain and was transported to Sierra View District Hospital via ambulance for observation. Both parties claimed to have a green light; however, an independent witness stated that only Perigo’s light was green.

DUI / Violation of Probation
Officers stopped a vehicle at Putnam Avenue and Third Street and contacted the driver, Colton Dennis, 21. Dennis was DUI and on felony probation. He was arrested, processed at the PD, and booked at the substation.
