Seven high school students were honored as recipients of the Good Citizen’s Award — offered by the Alta Mira Chapter of DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution, on Jan. 26 during an award ceremony.

Held in the social hall of Westwood Village, four of the seven recipients read essays and accepted their award from chairperson Marsha Schott.

The theme for the essay was “Our American Heritage and our Responsibility for Perserving It.”

On hand to accept the awards were Gabriela Ceballos of Harmony Magnet Academy, Michele Whitehair of Lindsay High School, Vanessa Agudo of Strathmore High and Cody Tilley of Exeter High School.

Also competing, but not present ,were Sabrina Moreno of Mission Oak High School in Tulare, Marnie Kavern of Porterville High School and Jessamae Cadiz from Monache High.

Moreno’s essay was chosen as the 2012-13 winner, and as such, it will advance to the next level of competition.
