Crime blotter 1/8/13

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Vehicle Burglary
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of North Prospect Street regarding a burglary to a vehicle. The victim stated between 01/07/13 at 9:45pm and 01/08/13 at 7:00am, subject(s) forced entry into her red Chevy Silverado. Once inside the subject(s) took three bags of Christmas Ornaments.

Located Stolen Vehicle
Officers responded to the 1500 block of North Prospect Street regarding a located stolen vehicle. The vehicle was processed for evidence and released to Hula Towing.

Warrant Arrest
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of South Wisconsin Street regarding a subject with a warrant. Derek Fox was contacted and had two felony warrants. Derek was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Main Jail.

Traffic Unit
The traffic unit conducted extra patrol in the areas of Sequoia Middle School, Westfield Elementary, Olive Street Elementary, Porterville High, and Monache High Schools today. Traffic officers also conducted extra enforcement for pedestrian-related violations on Henderson Avenue.

Warrant Arrests
Officers contacted Brenda Wigginton (54yrs) and her sister, Ethel Wigginton (44yrs), on Henderson Avenue near Jamba Juice where they had been panhandling. Both subjects had misdemeanor warrants and were arrested. Both subjects were later cited and released from the PPD.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
Officers responded to the area of Olive Avenue and Indiana Street regarding a hit and run collision. A driver was northbound on Indiana Street when he was rear-ended by Genia Meeks, 30. Meeks left without stopping. The driver that was rear-ended followed Meeks until she pulled into the Tulare County Government Plaza on West Henderson Avenue. Meeks was contacted by officers and said she was aware she struck another vehicle but was late for an appointment. Meeks was unlicensed and her vehicle was impounded. There were no injuries reported.

Attempt Commercial Burglary
Officers responded to the Boy Scout Building on North Newcomb Street regarding an attempted burglary. The reporting party stated suspect(s) tried to pry open a rear door however were unsuccessful.

Public Intoxication / Violation of Probation
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of West Grand Avenue regarding a disturbance. Salud Vargas, 44yrs, was contacted and was intoxicated. He was also on felony probation with a “no alcohol” clause. Vargas was arrested without incident and booked at Main Jail.

Burglary / Robbery (strong arm)
Officers responded to Save Mart on West Olive Avenue regarding a male juvenile detained for shoplifting. Store employees reported that the 16-year-old suspect entered the store, took a bottle of alcohol, and tried to leave without paying. When a female employee tried to stop the suspect, he pushed her down and tried to flee. Other employees were able to detain the suspect until police arrival. The female employee was not injured, and the suspect was later booked into the Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility for the above listed charges.

Located Stolen Vehicle
Officers located a gray 1991 Toyota Tercel that had been reported stolen on Wednesday. The vehicle was unoccupied in the parking lot of Jim’s Auto Parts. The vehicle was a complete recovery and stored at Budget Towing.

Felony Warrant
Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of North Porter Street regarding a disturbance. Officers contacted Miguel Garcia, 22,  and he had (1) felony and (1) misdemeanor warrant. Garcia was arrested on the warrants and booked at the substation.
