Crime Blotter 01/29/13

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Warrant Arrest
An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of North Henrahan Street regarding a stolen vehicle. The officer contacted Joshua Peyron who was found to have an active and confirmed felony warrant. The officer learned that Joshua was attempting to report the vehicle officers which was involved in a pursuit with earlier in the morning. The officer determined the vehicle was in fact not stolen and took Joshua in custody. Joshua was later booked into the Tulare County Main Jail after jail clearance.

Incident Report
Officers contacted a victim who stated he received a phone call from a family member in Mexico who stated they were being held ransom by unknown subjects. The person on the phone said the suspects were demanding $7,000 be wired to Sinaloa, Mexico. The victim said he wired the money and received a call later from his family member who stated they escaped. The victim stated he did not get the money back since it had already been collected.

Violation of Probation
Officers were dispatched multiple times regarding a verbal argument at a residence in the 700 block of West Putnam Avenue. Officers arrived and heard an argument inside between a female and male. Officers knocked on the door and contacted a female who stated Daniel Carrillo was in an argument with his girlfriend. Carrillo is on felony probation and refused to come to the door. Officers entered the apartment and found Carrillo hiding in the bathroom. Carrillo was taken into custody for violation of probation and booked at the Tulare County Main Jail.

Non Injury Collision
Officers responded to a non-injury collision in the area of Orange Avenue and Main Street. Anna Estrada was pulling out of the convenience store parking lot onto Orange Avenue and struck David Camargo who was westbound on Orange Avenue. Estrada was unlicensed.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance
Officers were in the area of Olive Avenue and Beverly Street when they observed a subject they recognized as Brent Franklin walking near Young’s Trucking. The officers were aware of recent cases in which Franklin was identified as possibly being involved in two separate thefts. When Franklin saw the officers, he fled and was able to temporarily elude capture. TCSD units were in the area and located Franklin at Claire Avenue and Lotas Street. He was detained and turned over to PPD officers. Franklin was under the influence of a controlled substance and arrested for resisting arrest. Franklin is also on Post Release Community Supervision; however, efforts to contact the Probation Officer were unsuccessful. Franklin was booked at the substation.
