Social Vocational Services Inc. has found its new home in Porterville.

According to the SVS website it “is a private not-for-profit service agency that has been providing supportive services to Californians with developmental disabilities for over 30 years.”

The Fresno-based non-profit has locations throughout the state, including one in Porterville on 94 W. Doris Ave.

Recently, it purchased 27,800 square feet of land at the southeast corner of Fourth Street and Harrison Avenue in Porterville, said Russ Bower, director of administration for the Central Valley Division of SVS.

“We are really excited about this,” Bower said. “We’d been looking for something for the past year and finally found this. It will be a much larger building. We will be able to offer more.”

The space will include a 6,600 square foot building with a library, exercise and computer rooms, as well as a full kitchen. There will also be a large outside area that will include a covered patio.

“We are working with Dennis Townsend at Townsend Architectural Group and Dayco Construction,” Bowser said. “They both have some really great ideas.”
SVS is tentatively looking at moving in to the new location sometime in 2013. When completed they will be able to serve 90 people with a staff between 30-35. They currently have only 3-4 on staff.
